Freckle Juice, by Judy Blume
Andrew sits behind Nick at school. Nick has freckles covering his face, ears, and neck. Andrew wishes he had freckles so that he doesn’t have to wash his face and neck every morning. The fact that Nick was born with his freckles doesn’t help Andrew. How can he get a face and neckful of wonderful dirt hiding spots? Sharon, the class know-it-all, sells Andrew her family’s “freckle juice” recipe for fifty cents. The horrible concoction makes Andrew sick for a few days, but it doesn’t make any freckles. When he returns to school with his own version of home-made freckles, his teacher helps him understand how special he is without them.
